Eagle at Pickwick from the porch of Master Gardener Judy Henry
This photo was taken from the porch of Ricky and Judy Henry's cabin at Pickwick Lake. Wasn't up there to see them----My son and daughter-in -law---(Emily and Paul) sent us the pictures yesterday.  Earlier in the year we saw a pair of eagles---with a youngster (all brown without the white head) from a distance in our cove------but this eagle was less than 20 feet from the top porch.  We are excited to have them in our cove----in previous years they have been up closer to Eastport.  When they fly overhead-----especially if you are out on the pontoon boat-----they are so big!!!   I don't know their wingspan ---but it looks to be 10 feet or more.  Maybe we will be able to get more pictures.  Thanks to Emily and Paul Henry for sharing this with us.  I am envious and wish that one of these magnificent birds would take up residence on my place, what a treat that would be.
These  photos were taken at MSU at the State conference for Master Gardeners.  The top picture shows Wesley Potts to the right and his son Sims on the left as they await the awards ceremony.  The picture below that shows Wesley on stage as he receives the award for "Friend of Master Gardener".  The award was presented by Charles Wood (President of State Master Gardener Board) and Dr. Lelia Kelly (MSU Consumer Horticulturist and State Coordinator for the Mississippi Master Gardener Association).  This award is given to one individual statewide per year.  We, the Union County Master Gardeners are very proud of Wesley.  He provided us with plants, chemicals, and tools for demonstrations all throughout the year.  He is the owner of Union County Seed and Feed in New Albany, MS.  Thank you Wesley.
